On The Wrong Side Uri Avnery 24.1.09

Israel is the product of the narrow nationalism of the 19th century, a nationalism that was closed and exclusive, based on race and ethnic origin, blood and earth. Israel is a “Jewish State”, and a Jew is a person born Jewish or converted according to Jewish religious law (Halakha). Like Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, it is a state whose mental world is to a large extent conditioned by religion, race and ethnic origin.

When Ehud Barak speaks about the future, he speaks the language of past centuries, in terms of brute force and brutal threats, with armies providing the solution to all problems. That was also the language of George W. Bush who last week slinked out of Washington, a language that already sounds to the Western ear like an echo from the distant past.

The words of the new president are ringing in the air: “Our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please.” The key words were “humility and restraint”.

Our leaders are now boasting about their part in the Gaza War, in which unbridled military force was unleashed intentionally against a civilian population, men, women and children, with the declared aim of “creating deterrence”. In the era that began last Tuesday, such expressions can only arouse shudders.

BETWEEN Israel and the United States a gap has opened this week, a narrow gap, almost invisible – but it may widen into an abyss.

Additions to Rumours of impending war – anyday. Steve Quayle Video and articles, US to invade Iran any day now?

leave a comment »

Following yesterdays post: Rumours of impending war within two days

Here is some extra fuel for the rumour mill.

From the Israeli press:

Also on Tuesday, the Ministry of Defense advised several IDF reserve generals working abroad to return home immediately because their personal safety was at risk. The ministry did not say how many former officers received the warning, but said it was primarily aimed at those working in Africa and the Persian Gulf.

This was in yesterdays post, but Debka later pulled the story from their main page, strange????

REAL REASON FOR GEORGIA WAR: Immediately after US losing control of Central Asian Gas and Oil, BP run BTC pipeline is blown up & war provoked in Georgia!

with 3 comments

The BP run BTC pipeline is the only valuable item in Georgia, the only thing to fight over, and just 2 weeks ago, the promise of it being filled with Kazakh oil disappeared. And it disappeared into Russia’s hands. Within a week the pipeline was blown up, and the Georgian offensive started.

This Post shows the evidence to support that.

Georgian consequences: Georgia sacrificed? Ex Soviet states wary of western support. Fears of Radical Islam fade

leave a comment »

The consequences of escalation. How can Russia fight back?

Arming Hizbollah, Syria and Iran is obvious. It can also support the Mujahadeen / Taliban in Afghanistan.

Countries agreived by US / Nato policies would welcome Russian alliances. Pakistan and Iran for example.

It seems no country can go it alone in our globalised world. But energy rich countries that own their own oil industries; Iran, Russia (and venezuela) can call their own shots more than others.

TheUSA can rapidly recede in significance, all from little Georgia invading South Ossetia. The straw that broke the US’ back…

The future belongs to Russia and China

Anyone who thought that the West’s most pressing issue is Islam should think again.[…]

The Bush era came to an end this week, but with it ended two decades of America being the sole superpower. The Pax Americana that maintained global stability for a generation has run its course. The repercussions will be felt clearly, first and foremost in the Middle East.

Georgia. President Mikheil Saakashvili did a foolish thing. Like a hot-headed Israeli, he did not respond to the deliberate attack on his country’s sovereignty by means of a diplomatic campaign, but rather militarily. The political echelon gave its troops an impossible mission […]

The Europeans already are incapable of calling the Russian aggression by its name, because they are dependent on Russian gas. [Ed: This is from the Israeli press, they have to include the obligatory “Russian Aggression”, or they would have to take the blame.] Source

Paul Craig Roberts: The US can cut Russia off from nothing. The Russians own US bonds & dollars.

with one comment

The Russian Oligarchs are clever, why don’t they sell the US bonds and Dollars?

Russia is showing a lot of restraint on the battlefield and internationally.

But the Neocons will eventually get the bear angry.

The million plus Russian Jews in Israel or with Israeli citizenship must also have a lot of influence. Sharansky (the last I heard) was appointed Israeli Minister for Russian affairs, following Putin’s visit to Israel.

If you don’t like Neocons, Russia can be seen as a hero! Who else stands up to them? And what are the Neocons apart from warmongers?

This is just an extract, follow the links at the end for the full article. Paul Craig Roberts is a proliic writer, his web site is at: http://www.vdare.com/roberts/all_columns.htm ,although this article is not there yet.

Paul Craig Roberts was Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan administration. He was Associate Editor of the Wall Street Journal editorial page and Contributing Editor of National Review.

The neoconned Bush Regime is furious that the Russian bear was not intimidated by the US supported aggression of the American puppet state, Georgia. Instead of accepting the act of American hegemony that the neocon script called for, Russia sent the Americanized Georgian army fleeing in fear.

Having failed with weapons, the Bush Regime now unleashes the rhetoric. The White House is warning Russia that failure to acquiesce to US hegemony could have a “significant, long-term impact on relations between Washington and Moscow.”

Do the morons who comprise the Bush Regime really not understand that short of a surprise nuclear attack on Russia there is nothing whatsoever the US can do to Moscow?

The Bush Regime owns no Russian currency that it can dump. The Russians own US dollars.

The Bush Regime owns no Russian bonds that it can dump. The Russians own US bonds.

The US can cut Russia off from no energy supplies. Russia can cut America’s European allies off from energy.
