Kouchner: Israeli raid a “very grave mistake”
France’s Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner says Israel’s raid on an aid flotilla heading for Gaza was a serious mistake that damaged Israel’s global reputation.
Kouchner said on RTL radio Wednesday that the deadly raid was “a very grave mistake” and “extremely damaging to the image of Israel itself.” Nine people were killed in the assault at sea.
The French foreign minister called for an international investigation, and said “there should not be impunity.”
The Spanish government on Monday condemned Israel for the use of “disproportionate force” in the attack.
The UN Security Council also condemned the attack, while the UN Human Rights Council on Wednesday adopted a resolution setting up an independent international probe into the incident.
More than 40 percent of Norwegians are already boycotting Israeli products or are in favour of doing so, according to a poll published Wednesday, two days after Israel’s deadly raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla.
