G20 CNN Video on Police containment procedures – kettling

leave a comment »

Many years ago I was standing a 100 yards away from demonstrators, only to be swept up in a police ‘kettle’. Not being a participant I worked my way to the front and asked if I could be let out. At which point a policeman kicked me.

They kept us there for hours and hemmed us in real tight, and when the rear of a crowd pushed then that reverberated throughout. It antagonised the hot heads and punished the innocent.

And lends credence to the axiom that the police are there to protect the wealthy.
