Israeli Fascism

Avnery discusses the increasingly flagrant Israeli fascism erupting amongst Israeli settlers, and now their actions are targeting Jewish Israeli leftists. Avnery says it all very well.

No doubt the treatment of Palestinians by the settlers is seen as the most pressing issue.

But what about Israel’s stance in the international arena, Supporting despots, why can’t Israel support Chavez, a man who is enriching his country’s poor? Or Morales? Why is Israel supporting wars that are based on war crimes?

Israel is rich enough to change its ways, its not as if it has no choice.

Or is Israel’s far right and its international relations two sides of the same coin? Or is one a natural product of the other?

Avnery talks about how many Israelis would want to live in peace with the Palestinans. What about Israel aligning itself with peace loving countries? And having relations outside of armaments?

Avnery on the settlers:

[…]Israeli Fascism is alive and kicking. It is growing in the flowerbed that produced the various religious-nationalist underground groups of the past: the group that tried to bomb the Muslim shrines on the Temple Mount, the underground that tried to assassinate the Palestinian mayors, the “Kach” gang, the perpetrator of the Hebron massacre Baruch Goldstein, the murderer of peace activist Emil Gruenzweig, the murderer of Yitzhak Rabin and all the underground groups that were uncovered at an early stage before their deeds could bring them to public notice.
