Snips: Obama & McCain state they intend to raise defense spending.

UK Jails hold 8,500 war veterans

Sterling drops to a record low against the Euro.

British banks scrambling for cash.

Alistair Darling’s the British Chancellor (economics minister) in an interview a few days ago, said everything ahead is doom and gloom, rising food and energy prices and dropping housing prices and more unemployment.

Very unusual for a cabinet minister. Although the Prime Minister has also said people waste too much food.

Certainly looking bad for the future. There will be less meat and alcohol on peoples tables. And that is now the general expectation.

The UK Government presumably has more control than most other European countries because it can set its own exchange rate as it is not in the Euro zone.

But like all other nations, it must be very weak when compared to high finance. And like the US there is not much difference between the major political parties.

One wonders how much the War on Terror has affected the British economy.
