America, will you sink already?!

Posted by morris108 on June 20, 2008

America, will you sink already?!
Waging war on Pakistan’s tribal area.
About to start a naval blockade on Iran.
Trying to set up a missile system in Lithuania.
Wooing Georgia and Ukraine into NATO.

Ya you got support at the UN for your resolutions.

But don’t you think Russia and China and Iran are aligned? Talking all the time.

You have bankrupted your own country. Nor is the UK in good shape.

Practiced genocide and torture.

The world doesn’t need you.

“Washington must learn from its past mistakes or face a valiant nation that is not afraid of ridding the region of their presence once and for all,” said Larijani on Wednesday.

The US actions do not make sense, they are simply self defeating.

And your allies: UK France Italy Canada Dutch, none of the people support the warring.

Which makes for a boss no one likes.

Now don’t get me wrong, American people are great. Then the question is: ‘what has gone wrong?’

In the end the Jewish empire will collapse.

Posted by morris108 on June 20, 2008

Could the Jews stop the wars & the destruction of the planet?

Yes at the drop of a hat they could.

The ones at the top have the brains and the power.

Perhaps they are worried about their own necks, meaning stopping the wars would be an admission of guilt.

This unabashed craving for hegemony, to conquer others will be the undoing.

Underneath the faulty hubris must be a messianic call.

In the end the Jewish empire will collapse. Because they couldn’t care less about lives. And they couldn’t care less about an individuals liberty. And that includes other Jews and Israelis.

So much blood, for what?

And all signs from Tel-Aviv and Washington are for ‘more of the same.

The Universe will teach the NeoCons that they are humans too. Even if they thought they were chosen.

For the time being they will listen to noone, even though it is obvious the entire world (except for chosen mercenaries and the totally corrupted) is opposed to the White House policies.

If war with Iran, the Internet will probably be cut

Posted by morris108 on June 8, 2008

If there is a war with Iran, the Internet will probably be cut

Of course it will, National Security, prevent terrorists communicating.

It could backfire through stopping people being armchair revolutionaries, and forcing them onto the streets.

But it will feel like a big loss.

Unilateral actions we have already seen when about 6 cables were cut.

When a major demonstration is organised in London, on that day there are severe disruptions to the tube (the underground transport), to prevent people getting there. With similar forethought the authorities wouldn’t want any free communications.

Cutting the internet is likely a possibility in any crises, not only war with Iran.

I think there is nothing that comes close to replacing it.

The power of religion in politics

Posted by morris108 on May 27, 2008

The power of religion is rarely discussed openly, save for gossipy comments of the wealth of the Vatican. Or the wealth of the British throne which is head of the Church of England. Or looking at pictures of Presidents and Prime Ministers with Rabbis.

Clearly there is a power there, so any insight into how they think would be useful. What follows is an excerpt of a review of just what life and death meant in the Bible times.
The reviewer inevitably compares modern materialistic man, with his/her sense of individuality and consumer ethic, to those that lived 1,000’s of years ago.
We can assume the devout today are reenacting the lifestyle of the ancients, and indeed enjoying the sense of community, lineage and territoriality that the Biblical people lived.
Being a modern man rather disenfranchised it all sounds very romantic to me. This extract suggests the ease there is in sending people off to war, when their lives are meaningless (dead). The only criticism I could offer is: if enslavement is death, why are we so involved in enslaving others. And it would appear that Muslims also value community, lineage and a sense of territory (not being exiled).
When I look at the NeoCons, and I know they think God has spoken to them. They are in fact a bunch of Oil people divorced from spiritual religion. And yes they are partnered with some Zionist forces, it makes one wonder if religion wouldn’t make a better job of it all. But then you look at Israel which is governed by Jewish law, where is the humanity? Now it is US election time, and at all times there are discussions about which candidates priest said what, reinforcing the importance of religion.
Anyway if we could judge todays politics with biblical values, it would be difficult!
The other form of biblical death is childlessness (I don’t have any, I would love to have, albeit with mixed fears in todays world, and with my situation, but that is another post) which makes me think of Edward Heath, he was a British Prime Minister some decades ago, and he was a bachelor, that could never never happen today.
And no I am not gay, and I have no reason to think this PM was.
The only sign of religion I see around me is a concern for image and ritual.

BOOK REVIEW: Life and death in the Bible

The power of God for Christians and Jews by Kevin J Madigan and Jon D Levenson . Reviewed by Spengler

Life and death to the ancient Hebrews were a moral conditions more than medical one, the authors explain. Enslavement and looming cultural extinction were felt as the grave, as was childlessness. National redemption and the covenantal promise of continuity of Abraham’s line were a restoration of life, a resurrection in the earliest stirring of Hebrew religious sensibility. The modern materialist view of life and death, the authors remind us, has little in common with the way in which ancient readers of the Bible understood existence.

One might go farther, and assert that the Biblical understanding of life and death still prevails today among most of the world’s six billion souls. The materialism of modern political science sadly misjudges the demands of the human heart. Nations are willing to fight to the death because their national life already has become a living death, in just the way the Bible saw it. In their hearts they already have gone down to Sheol, and the world holds no greater terror for them than what they live each day.

Depleted Uranium Shells Used by U.S. Military Worse Than Nuclear Weapons
Tuesday, May 20, 2008 by: David Gutierrez

Since the first Gulf War, the rate of birth defects and childhood cancer in Iraq has increased by seven times. More than 35 percent (251,000) of U.S. Gulf War veterans are dead or on permanent medical disability, compared with only 400 who were killed during the conflict.

Corruption here there and everywhere

Posted by morris108 on May 23, 2008

Corruption provides a bond between people that there otherwise wouldn’t be. It is the way of today. It also prevents freedom of association. It insures a kind of lost in the mire.
Still that is what makes the world go round. We have academics, professionals and intellectuals, salaried and generally conscientious. Then there is also the rabble. What better trade for them than corruption. People devoid of loyalty or purpose, give them corruption perhaps they unwittingly further a nation’s cause.
The big bosses, the politicians today are obliged to participate in or at least acknowledge the corruption. It anyway makes them supplicant.
And it is all a filter down effect, as above so below. So yes we are ripe for a (peaceful) revolution. Where we can be governed by a right knowing and right doing, not a ‘fit the image’ formula.
The lack of freedom of association is perhaps the most evil in the corrupt way of life.
I was talking to a Pakistani yesterday, he told me Pakistan is very very corrupt. And I asked, ‘And it is not here?’
He answered here it comes back as a cheaper car, there it is very open, right in front of anyone.
Anyway the issue is, how to retrain everyone, how to create a new vision? People could be violent if their income and way of life is threatened. Would/could Ron Paul or some other visionary give us the needed guidance. We need a rabbit out of the hat, and we anyway can’t compete with India and China.
It is time for a new lifestyle.
One that embodies freedom of association.
Now wait a minute, someone said.
What about these billionaire tycoons, you think I am going to let them take everything?
The tycoons are involved in oil, armaments, finance and hitech.
Nationalising the oil and armaments industries might be a good start, insure rotation of people.
It is the oil armaments and finance that are behind the wars. And are they corrupt?
We will fizzle from corruption, and then lose the values we are proud of like womens rights, and a host of other western freedoms.
As we all know, the gap between rich and poor is getting bigger and bigger.

What’s the plan Sam? War crimes:

Posted by morris108 on May 18, 2008

There have been several attempts at indictments*. They are not going to go away. And the longer the warring goes on, the more likely the charges will stick.
The secret people in charge are in no mood to change tack. They are hell bent on more and more war. Isn’t there a whole class of henchman, who are implementing the orders? Can’t they be as foolish as me and other Bloggers? Can’t they say enough is enough? Even for logistical reasons. The Muslims have become more of a fighting force, and the trend will continue.
Society seems full of secret groupings. Bankers, Industrialists, intelligence Agencies. I guess they don’t want to break ranks.
But with an economy in nosedive, isn’t it time to make the peace.
I think they wouldn’t mine losing Iraq and Afghanistan. They just couldn’t bear to see other people (Russia, China, Muslims) peacefully profiting from the resources.
In the meantime if you are not in the loop of supporting our hierarchy, then shortage of money is likely. But that will just breed more clamour for justice and retribution.
And where could those charged with war crimes run to?

*Just one example of indictments (for Washington DC only): http://livefrankly.wordpress.com/2008/05/13/bush-officials-charged-with-war-crimes

Israeli Govt. Spokesperson Israel will lose Iran war

Posted by morris108 on May 17, 2008

These excerpts from Presstv:

Colonel Miri Eisen, a special Israeli government spokesperson in Dublin.

The Israeli state coffers would be drained in the wake of war with Iran, Eisen added at a seminar in Dublin’s Trinity College, Jewish Telegraph Agency reported.

Eisen said [ Israel ] should welcome a diplomatic solution with Tehran. “There is no other way — because if it becomes Israel versus Iran, Israel has already lost.”

We are getting poor for the Iraq war

Posted by morris108 on May 16, 2008

We are getting poor for the Iraq war
Inflation has arrived and is coming big time. So many trillions are owed by the banks that it would be more correct to call them zillions.
There have been major meetings in the past; like Bretton Woods for example. Where an entire financial system was redesigned. We need something of that magnitude.
There isn’t one benefit of the Iraqi war to visualize. Not that if there were one, it could be justified. But still to add insult to injury: just sky high oil prices going even higher. Yes war contractors have benefited. Well for those of us not that way inclined, life is getting harder. Less money coming in and prices going up, and the forecast is far worse.
Almost all inflation figures are already breaking records. Although there are some semantical spin games to rearrange the figures, and even those look bad. And what are our lords and chiefs doing, nothing, just more of the same.
For inflation figures, see The Mogambo Guru: www.atimes.com/atimes/Global_Economy/JE17Dj01.html

Let’s start a war

Posted by morris108 on May 16, 2008

Let’s start a war.
A/ When there is nothing left to lose…
B/ It would be difficult not to look guilty
A/ We are going under anyway
B/ The people wouldn’t put up with it.
A/ We can get a couple of people to sink a ship.
B/ Better to go through a recession.
A/ No they’ll be clamouring for trials and commissions.
B/ So what happens after the ship sinks.
A/ And its more than a recession that is coming.
B/ Sinking a ship isn’t enough.
A/ And this time we don’t want any internet.
B/ We need a plan.
A/ We just don’t like to see the others succeed.
B/ Our entire system is going down.
A/ Let’s make a natural disaster, a Tsunami, ya, no, well we’ll have to destroy something.
B/ A gas attack?
A/ Now you’re thinking!
B/ It’ll be the fear of God
A/ We need a low level war that steadily expands and carries on for years.
B/ Ya, better start soon.

A message to our mentors

Who is more patriotic?

The one who says, ‘if they go for Iran, they’ll get an electric shock’ and puts his thumbs up.

Or the one who goes for Iran and gets an electric shock. The gunghos are doing no one a favour, particularly themselves, their offspring and their allies.

A Katusha from Gaza hits Ashqelon.

Posted by morris108 on May 15, 2008

A Katusha hits Ashqelon.

Last time that happened Israel went into Gaza and 120 people died, something like that. Gazans stayed clear of their windows for fear of snipers. I think last time three rockets (or mortars) hit Ashqelon, and there was some death.
This time only injuries were reported. The reports give some indication of what happened, but do not necessarily reflect the truth. It was said two seriously hurt. This is a well defined medical category.
If there was death, there would also be every reason to conceal it. Either so as not to embolden the enemy. Nor to panic one’s own population. Similarly a less than serious injury, could actually mean temporary shock. And such distortions of the truth would be common military practice anywhere in the world.
Why was the fire activated now, with the full knowledge that this is a red line for Israel? Hamas has been saying it will use force up until the last minute, until a hudna (a ceasefire) is agreed.
Bush is in Israel now, and not for nothing, and not for three days to celebrate Israel’s anniversary.
So clearly actions speak louder than words. And Hamas wasn’t happy with what was offered. It would seem to be a very organised organisation. Maybe the orders came from Damascus?
The Israelis have been threatening to invade Gaza for months. It really is not something they want to do, or they would have done it already. Also when they have been making incursions, they have been meeting some fierce resistance, but we never hear about it.
There is something ludicrous about the Israelis launching an offensive while Bush is there. It is just no longer the way things are done. Leaders are always well away from where the trouble is. And of course it wuld ruin all the plans for a public show of a peace agreement.
In proxy wars, and maybe in all our modern wars it is the innocents who suffer the most. And the unfolding events confirm that. Tonight an Israeli air raid killed two Palestinians.
So we can expect the sides to continue trying to kill each other until there is an agreement. Which I think some would like to be signed in Sharm in about four days before Bush goes back. This also seems like Hamas is setting the agenda at this moment.
As for Bush himself, it would take a big stretch of the imagination to think he has a preference for particular details in the agreement. However there are a lot of people who do, Israelis and their Western backers. These backers have been getting publicity in the Olmert scandal case as people funding his election and the settlers in the west bank. And there are Israelis asking why financiers who reside in the US are having so much power over their lives.
The graph since 2003 until now, of timing and tactics has consistently favoured the other side.
Choose your words for the other side: Arabs, Muslims, Terrorists, Insurgents, Resistance, Axis of Evil, indigenous, the peoples will, the oppressed, the democratically elected.
A little truth could go a long way.

Bush in Israel

Posted by morris108 on May 14, 2008

Israel where is the soul searching?
The most unpopular man in the most unpopular place.
Being loyal to one’s friends makes sense.
Sinking with them is a little more dubious.
Israel and the Jews have it in them to change coats. To change direction. To experience an awakening. Israel is known for dynamic political changes.
What is being cemented now with Bush’s visit?
A hubris, a blatant disregard for all the rest of humanity.
There will be some spin, just to ‘cover oneself’ by the Israelis. Maybe more revelations about Olmerts supposed corruption. ‘Supposed’ because it is simply a political tool.
I guess none of us know what goes on on these presidentail visits. There are also Hundreds of big wigs making deals and laying out strategies.
Hizbollahs recent show of strength was not part of the plan.
The old racism, imperialism and supremacist ideology will try to find more ways. What a party they will have. Devising more killing and bombing and what crumbs to offer the imagined defeated. In other words expect more fiascos from more of the same thinking.
They are sitting on top of a mountain that is melting.
They are talking about Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, Iran, Syria, etc.
Wouldn’t it be nice to imagine a dramatic announcement? it is extremely unlikely. Bush is there for three days, then two days with Palestinians in Egypt. It is a long time. They must have some expectations, and Carter’s shuttling was not for nothing. But the Hizbollah provocation did not go to plan.
To get a rabbit out of the hat, they will have to include Hamas, Hizbollah and Syria.
Fat chance ……

Washington targeting training camps in Iran

Posted by morris108 on May 14, 2008

Washington targeting training camps in Iran
The places where insurgents and terrorists etc. get trained. It sounds like a cowardly way to further the war aims. It also sounds extremely stupid. Given the vulnerability of the US forces who are in the Gulf region. Considering the alternatives, well there really are not any, targeting more than the training camps with more missiles thus getting a guaranteed retaliation against Israel. Using weapons of mass destruction, most countries possess these, and surely they would be used in retaliation. Or waging war on Iran in a sensible manner would require an army of many many millions of trained personnel, which is totally unfeasible. So it is a lose lose story.
What can the West do? Its going under, to some degree on the financial front, it is sinking. And there will be increasing calls for justice, for punishment for those that lied.
We need a Gorbachov (just to repeat myself) someone to dismantle it all.
Nobody can save the economic might of the US. The train is in motion. If the bloodshed increases, then so will the calls for justice. Isn’t it all ironic, that bush is so close to iran right now, if he just zipped over there now, everything could be sorted. When Nixon went to China, it took the world by shock. China was the Pariah state.

Will Israel let Syria go in Lebanon?

Posted by morris108 on May 8, 2008

Will Israel let Syria go in Lebanon?

And in Israel, they say they do not want a war. Yet they don’t speak out about the Iraqi conquest. The two are totally connected. The power behind the continuation of the conquest, is the same power that would be happy if there is a civil war in Lebanon, that would be happy if Syria intervened, and would then be happy to attack Syria.
The military and Oil industries depend upon conflict.
If Iran were to assist Syria in such a conflict, then certainly the US will attack Iran. This must all be common knowledge to the intelligence communities on all sides.
Would anyone assist Iran? Unlikely, but the candidates are Pakistan, Russia, China and least likely Turkey.
Syria’s best hope would be having sophisticated missiles from Iran. And thereby disabling the Israeli airfields.
Hassan Nasrallah is giving a speech now. Everyone will be listening. The likelihood of a conflict in Lebanon is increasingly likely. And it is unlikely not to spread.
To stop an Israeli Syrian war, it is necessary to oppose, Bush, Rice and all NeoCons, it is necessary to oppose the US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Iraq - the mistakes

Posted by morris108 on May 1, 2008

The Iraq war could have been won.
If there had been more troops.
If there had not been an internet.
If the Baathists would have been left in power.
If the people were not taken as human shields.
If there had not been torture.
If there hadn’t been indiscriminate bombing.
If mercenaries and contractors weren’t used.
If the clans were allowed to run themselves.
If noone said, ‘bring em on’
If you hadn’t forgot why you went there.
Which was to then go for Iran.
There were so many lies, no one knew what they were there for.

Avnery: the futility of war

Posted by morris108 on April 30, 2008

The Military Option By Uri Avnery

http://zope.gush-shalom.org/home/en/channels/avnery/1209249140/

Avnery’s latest weekly article.
He summons so much evidence on the futility of war, pointing to countries that failed (UK, France & more) and countries who achieved in the absence of war. Germany, Japan, how Israel’s 73 war was unnecessary as Sadat had offered peace a year earlier.
His insights are beautiful:

“The 1967 war was intended at the beginning to break the siege on Israel. But in the course of the fighting, the war of defense became a war of conquest which drove Israel into a vertigo of intoxication from which it has not yet quite recovered.”

Anyway he lambastes the Generals and politicians at all times, for their stupidity and their egos.

While explaining the charade of Bush’s Iraq war, he still labels it an ‘oil war’, no mention of Israel.
As he was describing post World War II wars, surprisingly he does not attribute the Soviet collapse to the war in Afghanistan, nor does he predict the US collapse due to the current wars.

But he makes a clear message that peace is more profitable. He takes some shots at Kissinger and Bush, perhaps in the hope that their current hawkish influence can be deflated.

Avneri finishes with this comment:

ALBERT EINSTEIN considered it a symptom of madness to repeat again and again doing something that has already failed and to expect a different result every time.

Avnery is an old timer, and perhaps he senses that war is a real possibility, and the Generals and Politicians involved are fools with big egos.

Collapsing Capitalism

Posted by morris108 on April 25, 2008

What will the Jews do, when Capitalism collapses?
The Jews were well entrenched in the communist revolution in Russia.
They prospered when they lived under Moslem rule.
And as merchants they also prospered in the middle ages, although merchants are capitalists.
There is a likelihood of the dollar & western banks collapsing.
What can the oligarchy do?
First of all, be prepared to change clothes.
Muslim banks work on a sharing of the profit, rather like the British Cooperative bank. So resuscitating or starting a new Cooperative bank is one suggestion.
Investing in agriculture, and becoming agricultural is another idea.
None of us know what will replace the dollar & US multinational banks, (& Insurance companies). But making money from lending might be redundant.
China, India & the oil producers will retain their wealth. Europe because of its rich history won’t sink into mayhem but it will suffer.
Along with the demise of America’s economic strength, will be Americana. The stock markets, & all speculative institutions. A democracy dictated by money & mainstream media.
The risk is dummies thinking wars will be a solution.
So better to think about Noah’s Ark.
And also better to ‘let capitalism go’.
As for Jewish idealogy: Family, God and ancestry. Then better to preach the idealogy, rather than Jews and the holocaust. Thereby losing the vanity factor.
There is a real risk of losing the media, in part due to the internet, and also because it is increasingly unbelievable.
Letting go, not clinging on, those are the attributes needed now.
There has been much talk of the rise of Hamas, Hezbollah, the Mahdi army. what they have in common is their social welfare, they feed, clothe and shelter people. And yes they are religious.
The wars have precipitated the collapse. The easy credit was in the end the identifier of capitalism

The idealogues weren’t economists…

War in Iraq … & inside Israel

Posted by morris108 on April 16, 2008

Who could say Israel isn’t complicit in the war in Iraq. To have said so a few years ago, would have been rather controversial and confrontational. Now the internet is swarming with such articles. Anyway Israel has publicly proclaimed its support for the war.
While its true it has allies fighting this war, and therefore it would seem ludicrous for Israel to change tack.
One can nevertheless ask; what does Israel have to gain from the ‘allies’ being in Iraq? Absolutely nothing. Some depleted Uranium being blown over it. Any oil it might secure is hardly worth the effort (and cost). And what does the war effort add to Israeli society? More militancy, more training for military adventure, all the time creating and training enemies. The settlers feel they are on Gods land, so now that whole attitude is being extended. The war is likely to come home to roost.
I presume there is no longer any belief that Iraq can be conquered. Or are there truly people who believe in having US bases there for many years to come. Or believe that it could even be supported logistically?
The allies still control the majority of the Gulf. They should be grateful for what they’ve got.
And yes it is the end of military adventurism. The Jews explored it from 48 till now. Maybe, after all, it ain’t that Jewish a thing.
It’s a failed policy.
There are 100’s of thousands of dead women and children.
Wake up!

When is a war a war ?

Posted by morris108 on April 10, 2008

For weeks there has been killings in the Gaza strip. Every other day or every day. Sometimes also inside Israel. Yesterday I think it was two Israelis killed and nine Palestinians. These are generally summarised as ‘incidents’.
Clearly there reaches a point of escalation, where it is no longer incidents.
It would be hard to imagine the Gaza conflict ever being more than a conflict, even with an invasion by Israel, the Gazan response would still be asymetrical, rather than two armies facing each other.
Although the unity between Hamas and other Arab forces is probably higher than ever. Then we could expect Hezbollah and possibly Syrian involvement. Then there is a war.
While Israel has attacked Lebanon about three times including 1982. It was nevertheless Israel invading. Israel has not been Invaded, although the Arabs tried in 73, but even that onslaught was on occupied territories.
The prospects for a war are pretty high now.

How has it all gone so wrong?

Posted by morris108 on April 9, 2008

When everything is collapsing on all sides. Faulty logic is the only answer.

With the magnificence of God and Biblical people. Giving a strength to prove that all humans are weak and corruptible. That is the faulty logic. And I am not arguing that God is not magnificent, nor that the Biblical people were not amazing in their awareness.
But when granted with 100’s of millions of people who only wish to enjoy the moment, who can be baited with money, false hopes and alcohol.
Then we arrive at todays situation.
Where we have to hate the enemy. An enemy we have created, over and over again. Hezbollah must be the enemy number 1. It is well known that 3 decades ago they were impoverished farmers and non militant. Apart from riding roughshod over them, shooting at everything and anything. Israel also took their people back and put them in prisons. Without charges or trials.
Outlaw Hamas, Outlaw concerns for humanity, punish opposition through the family. It is now the 11th hour. Being dictated to by men with grand plans, they were dangerous with their delusions, there is a risk they will be more so when faced with loss of power.
Seeking justice and war crimes trials won’t work. Acquiescing to Iran will. In fact Iran ceded the war to ‘the great satan’. Well let’s take a leaf out of their book, it seems to work.
To replicate the biblical way is a noble cause. To aspire to be like them is admirable. It is also an individual quest, not defined by ritual. May the Jewish religion live long and prosper. But how have murderous villains taken over the decision making? It’s a blip in history, and the moment is urgent.

Der Spiegal has an interview with Ehud Barak.

Posted by morris108 on April 9, 2008

The Israelis call him the defence minister, the Iranians call him the war minister.
He did not present a new vision, and what western leader does?
Anyway following on the heals of the Israeli PM visiting Germany (in part to hurry up the delivery of a couple of submarines) and Merkels praising visit to Israel, to which Avneri said , ‘ she’s no friend of Israel’ cause she’s suppporting a government whose policy is leading to an abyss. The gist of Avneri’s Haaretz ad was saying a friend is a critic, who might have some uncomfortable truths. Not a ‘yes sir, as you head for a disaster’.
Anyway Ehud Barak just seems and sounds like more of the same, he even quotes Sharons actions, departing from Gaza. Speigel’s journalists never asked about the dead and imprisoned Palestinian women and children. They did plug him about the settlements, he agrees some withdrawal is necessary but he wants to avoid confrontation, ‘and not evacuate children by force’. Perhaps in these situations the interviewee is given the questions prior to the interview. Yes he was articulate, yet didn’t say a thing, except perhaps when asked about the potential of Hamas being in power, he said dictating to others doesn’t work in the Middle East, it didn’t work in Afghanistan nor in Iraq.
But even this is: ‘acknowledging after the fact’.
Which just about says it all.
It’s as if he is in an inner circle which extends around the Globe. As if his hands are tied, in no small measure by settlers and their sympathisers.
Oh ya, and he’s against Hamas.
Israel is just and only about security. It doesn’t know how to take the next step. To step into the status of a liberal non combatant country.

Der Spiegal interview

Footnote:
Here are some excerpts from an Avneri article less than a month old. I only found it while looking for the previous source of the above Avneri comment. And consider that I could be taking these excerpts out of context.

Barak took care not to speak about persons “with blood on their hands”, but about those “with Jewish blood on their hands”. Jewish blood, of course, is quite different from any other blood. And indeed, there is no person in the Israeli leadership with so much blood on his hands as him. Not abstract blood, not metaphorical blood, but very real red blood. In the course of his military service, Barak has personally killed quite a number of Arabs. Whoever shakes his hand - from Condoleezza Rice to this week’s honored guest, Angela Merkel - is shaking a hand with blood on it.
……..
and from the same article:

A PROPOS: who is really in charge in Israel at this time?

This week’s events point to the answer: the man who makes the decisions is Ehud Barak, the most dangerous person in Israel, the very same Barak who blew up the Camp David conference and persuaded the entire Israeli public that “we have no partner for peace”.

2052 years ago today, on the Ides of March, Julius Caesar was assassinated. Ehud Barak sees himself as a latter-day local replica of the Roman general. He, too, would dearly want to report: “I came, I saw, I conquered.”

But the reality is rather different: He came, he saw, he destroyed.

Knock knock knocking on war’s door

Posted by morris108 on April 8, 2008

If only one could believe the Israelis saying their military drills, are to learn how to deal with a defense against missiles. In reality. could they ever be more ready to attack than when they are mobilised in formations? Well only if you think like the old guard. The old guard is used to trampling over willy nilly civilians, in their pursuit of conquest. Although some noteworthy exceptions: Lebanon 06, Syria 82 (Bekaa Valley), and also the Egyptians crossing the Suez.
Really the Israelis are in no position to attack, well certainly not in terms of troops in the front line, I wouldn’t want to advise on better methods, but the troops in the north are nothing but targets, they might be able to conquer the Druse of the Golan, who are already conquered.
And why has Israel gone into the north of Gaza in the last 24 hours? It’s still bluff and bravado, but they are acting with the military.
No one is listening to Avneri : ‘If Kant were dug up tomorrow and asked about the Palestinians, he would probably answer: “Give them what you think should be given to everybody, and don’t wake me up again to ask silly questions.”
And why Tony Karon is writing about economic warfare, when the news is not new, is a mystery, it might mean the policy has failed, is ineffective. It is for a reason! Austria last year, Switzerland this year. Maybe there is an imminent announcement regarding the Iranian Oil bourse. Although it has already officially opened after many delays, it has perhaps only been treading water. While googling this, even main stream oil publications were pondering conspiracy theories about the cut data cables.
Ex president Katsav was accused of rape etc, in the midst of the Lebanon war, there can be little doubt that he was out of line with the powerful in Israel. Maybe he was advocating going nuclear, who knows? Well he just withdrew his plea bargain, which means he has hardened his stance. Maybe he feels vilified.
If any war mongers want to pull a trigger, there is no easier time than when troops and nation are mobilised. Ignoring what is being said is the key to understanding. Immediately before Israel bombed Syria last year, it was making explicit peace overtures.
I glanced a headline: ‘Jordan demining borders’, well well well … The Golan and Lebanon must be impassable. –
