Mumbai terrorist: We were told to kill Israelis

The only terrorist captured by Indian authorities following the Mumbai attacks told interrogators during questioning that he and his men were sent specifically to kill Israelis to avenge “atrocities” against the Palestinians, the Times of India reported Sunday.

Amir Kasab, 21, told investigators that this was why they targeted the Chabad House, also known as the Nariman House in Mumbai, an outreach center meant for local Jews and Jews touring India, including Israelis. Sources said Kasab’s colleagues killed in the operation had stayed at the Nariman House in the past.

“They have stayed in Nariman house on rental basis identifying themselves as Malaysian students.” said a source. Police were trying to determine why Nariman House rooms were given to non-Jews, the Times of India reported.

and IF they were “were sent specifically to kill israelis to avenge the “atrocities” against the palestinians”, then WHY, after over 48 hours of siege and combat, would this never once have been mentioned in ANY form whatsoever; INCLUDING a telephone call to the media in which one of them voiced grievances and demands?
personally, i find it MORE than a little bit “odd” that the first anyone hears of this comes via a police interrogation of an attacker a full day after the attack`s over, when in MOST similar scenerios; he`d be dead!

Yes, the attackers picked out conspicuous but `soft` targets: the Taj hotel, the Chabad house.

But once the targets were chosen, neither Jews nor Israelis nor even Westerners were especially targeted. The New York Times summary:

Nearly two hundred people were killed: the overwhelming majority being Indian. Read accounts of the killings at the Chabad house: the rabbi…and the tailor next door, and the call center worker walking down the street. Say what you will, these were real equal-opportunity killers. They were happy to whack anybody.

This does not make any sense and is misleading. If these terrorists targeted Israelis, why did they carry out attacks against non-Israelis in the other locations (About 300 killed, and hundreds injured) ???
Clearly, the investigators are leaking misleading information.
This well-coordinated attack COULD NOT have been carried out without the assistance of sophisticated intelligence apparatus. The question we should ask.. What interest has Pakistan in doing that? What interest does the USA have in doing that?

Well, that would explain why the Chabad Center in the Nariman House in Mumbai was attacked, but it doesn`t explain the other 9 targets in the city. If the sole purpose of this terrorist operation was to kill Israelis, then going to Mumbai to do it would be a poor choice since there couldn`t be more than a couple of hundred or so Israelis in the city of 15 million people at any given time and they would be scattered all over the place.

Why were the terrorists at the two large hotels looking for persons with American or British passports? Why did the terrorist who was in phone contact with the media mention Muslim prisoners in Indian (and not in Israeli) prisons and Muslim deaths in Kashmir (and not in Palestine)? No, there`s a bigger reason behind this attack and it has to do with stirring up trouble between India and Pakistan over Kashmir and Jammu.

Usually in a hostage situation the hostage takers have certain demands in return. Otherwise they would just kill the hostages without demanding anything.

Why did the hostage takers hold hostages? What did they want from the world.

MiddleStanian`s doubts are valid.The Chabad centre was pretty low profile;I,like most people here, wasn`t even aware of its existence earlier.And Jews have always lived in peace in India.There was a (third)luxury hotel, cinemas, restaurants nearby any of which would have held far,far greater numbers of people. A piece of the puzzle is missing.

How did Teitelbaum get killed studying gemara if Rabbi Shemtov spoke 6 times to the hostage takers who told him they wouldn`t harm anyone? Killed learning gemara with terrorists in the building? There is alot of false information being distributed. But see this article. Does the Mossad know more than they claim, especially since the State of Israel desperately needs the Indians to join them in their fight against Iran and Arabs?!

Little off topic: Why would Chabad spend precious resources to operate a center in India, home of a very tiny jewish community. I would have thought there are better geographic areas to focus on. Where does this organization get their funding to open and maintain facilities throughout the world?
